YMCA Endowment Fund Heritage Club

The Heritage Club is a group of caring people who, like you, want to leave a legacy with lasting and meaningful impact; who recognize the benefits of renowned youth and family programs, innovative learning opportunities, and limitless community participation; and who see the way to building strong kids, strong families, and strong communities.

The Heritage Club recognizes individuals, couples, and businesses that make a contribution to support the South Sound YMCA’s Endowment Fund.

There are many ways to make a gift to support the Y’s endowment. Gifts are classified in two categories: outright and deferred.

Outright gifts are those whose ownership passes to the South Sound YMCA at the time of the donation. The two most common types of outright gifts are cash and appreciated assets.

For most donors, gifts of appreciated assets that have been held for more than one year may be a more “tax-wise” gift than cash. Appreciated assets include:

• Publicly traded securities and mutual funds
• Closely held stock
• Real estate
• Paid-up insurance policies

Another type of current gift is a charitable lead trust, which makes payments to the South Sound YMCA for a certain number of years and then returns the principal to you or distributes it to your heirs.

Deferred gifts are those whose ownership passes to the South Sound YMCA after a specified period of time or after the donor’s death and include:

• Bequests
• Life insurance
• Real estate with retained life estate
• Retirement plan assets
• Charitable remainder trust

Careful financial planning can minimize your tax liability in life and allow you to pass on more of your assets to the people and causes you care about. Please seek the advice of an attorney or financial advisor before making a decision on this matter.
