COVID-19 Updates: Facility Closures

A video message from Kyle Cronk, President & CEO.

Dear Y Members,

On November 15, 2020, Governor Jay Inslee announced new restrictions aimed at reducing the spread of COVID-19 in our community. One of these measures is the closure of all indoor gyms and fitness facilities. Swimming pools are allowed to remain open under current operating restrictions. School-based childcare programs are not impacted by these new restrictions.

In accordance with this mandate, the Plum Street YMCA will close at the end of regularly scheduled business hours on Monday, November 16. At this time, the Briggs YMCA fitness center, gym, and Kids Zone! will also close. All scheduled classes and activities will continue as planned until this deadline. This closure is currently scheduled to remain in effect through Monday, December 14.

Both the Main Pool and Activity Pool at the Briggs YMCA will remain open and operational. Swim lessons, lap swim, and family reservations in the activity pool will continue until further notice.

While we are disappointed that this step is necessary, we understand the risk to our community if this virus continues to spread at current levels. And, as we near the holiday season, it will be critical for each of us to take appropriate precautions in order to protect ourselves and those around us, and ensure restrictions can be lifted as scheduled.

As part of our Y family, you have the following options with regard to your membership.

  • MAINTAIN YOUR MEMBERSHIP. No action is required to maintain your membership. Staying with us and paying your membership dues allows us to provide critical programs and services to our community, keep YMCA staff employed, and ensure the facility is ready to return to our full-service capacity as soon as the data indicates it is safe to do so.

Contact us no later than November 27th if you’d like to do one of the following:

  • DONATE YOUR MEMBERSHIP DUES. Turn your dues into a donation in our community! Over the past several months, we’ve seen an increased need for financial assistance to participate in critical childcare programs. Your donation will ensure all kids and families have the support they need to thrive during this community crisis.
  • PUT YOUR MEMBERSHIP ON HOLD FOR DECEMBER. This will stop payments of dues for the month of December. They will automatically resume on the first of the year. We’ll look forward to seeing you back!

To make the account changes above, please email membership@ssymca.net or call 360.753.6576 no later than Friday, November 27th.

We thank everyone who has continued to stand with our Y throughout this ongoing crisis. Your support has allowed us to provide critical services throughout this pandemic. There’s a bright future ahead. We will get there together.

The Y. Here for good.
