The YMCA Community Cafés bring together those who are 55+ to build health in spirit, mind, and body so that no one is stuck and alone during this pandemic season, but rather thriving with greater purpose connection and well-being.
What is a Community Café?
There will be a brief (15-20 min) topical introduction with ideas to frame the discussion and consider things in new ways. This will be followed by small group facilitated discussions where you will have the opportunity to share experiences and perspectives or simply listen to your peers as you feel comfortable. Following the small group discussions, we will come back together for an empowering full group wrap up with relevant resource sharing and a look ahead to the next café.
All Community Cafés are FREE and hosted on Zoom. If you are new to Zoom and would like some assistance getting started, please note that on your registration form.
LIVENING 2021: SUPPORT AND OPPORTUNITIES
February 2 | Communication for Decision-making
The once straightforward decisions related to socializing, going out of our homes, and seeing family (or not) have taken on new weight. Communicating our needs and fears may not be simple. As we move through these challenges together, we will explore communication styles to help us feel heard and understood, even when the conversations may not be easy.
February 9 | Heart Health: Physically and Emotionally
It’s heart health month and together we will explore options to keep both our physical and emotional heart health working the best ways we can. Join us for discussions and strategies to keep our hearts healthy. In celebration of Heart Health Month, you are invited to wear red to our Community Café (National Wear Red Day is February 5, 2021).
February 16 | What is Happening at the Y?
The pandemic has brought many changes to our lives as well as how the YMCA’s serve their communities. Come learn how your WA State Y’s are adapting to serve you and meet your health needs. Discover the variety of activities available to Y members and community members alike from your local Y and our WA Alliance of Y’s.
February 23 | Holding Compassion
Americans are currently facing the convergence of two pandemics (COVID-19 and racism) and the collateral economic crisis. As a result, many are experiencing feelings of fear and uncertainty. We have heard from Community Café participants an interest in exploring how we can hold compassion for ourselves and others when our ideas, dreams and plans don’t necessarily align. Come explore and learn from one another how to hold and model compassion for ourselves and others in this time.
