A BOLD COMMUNITY VISION

We envision the South Sound as an anti-racist community where all children see a path to their dreams, all people are valued, and each of us has the support and space to meet our potential.

We believe that the economic success of our community as a whole is dependent on addressing inequities in the intersecting issues of race, poverty, education and health that serve as barriers to individual success.

SUPPORTING FAMILIES - Strengthening the Economy

Funds raised during the month of August ensure the Y can continue developing and implementing critical safety protocols and moving quickly to meet the changing financial, academic, and social needs of families.

Emergency Childcare

When schools closed in March, the Y quickly pivoted services to provide childcare for essential workers. We offered free care for healthcare workers and 1st responders and increased the amount of financial aid distributed.

During this time, 80% of students served received free or reduced cost care.

Supporting Virtual Learning

The Y is creating safe, innovative programing to meet the social and academic needs of children as school goes virtual this fall. An array of programs including full-day care options, will be available to safely meet the changing needs of families.

Keeping Kids
Safe

Since March, the Y has lead our region in providing safe, reliable childcare to so parents can work and our community can thrive. Implementing many of these new protocols require additional resources. Examples include:

  • Increased ratio of staff to students to allow for small group sizes
  • Increased sanitization of all high-touch surfaces and program materials
  • Screening procedures for staff and participants upon entry
