EVERY KIDS FIRST YOUTH EXPERIENCE SHOULD START AT THE Y!
- We are proud to offer values-based, age specific, and appropriate competitive leagues and clinics for basketball and volleyball five times a year and track & field in the summer. Clinics start at age four and leagues start in Kindergarten.
- In the YMCA Youth Sports – everybody makes their team, all kids play equally, and adult role models like you make it an unforgettable experience! Our goal is to instill a lifelong love of sports in your child and a rewarding coaching experience for you!
- No youth is turned away for inability to pay – give us a call if we can help.
OUR VOLUNTEERS
The South Sound Y’s sports program is made possible by our dedicated volunteer coaches comprised of community members and parents like yourself. Our volunteers are passionate about empowering youth in the community and creating an environment that is inclusive, educational, and fun for children
WE NEED VOLUNTEER ROLE MODELS TO SERVE AS TEAM COACHES
- We will prepare you to lead your team of budding athletes through coach meetings, clinics and material for your team’s sport and age-level. No previous experience is necessary!
- To ensure the safety of all our little athletes, all our volunteers and staff go through a through and rigorous screening process.

Yes! Our members save up to 40% on our most popular offerings like youth sports, swim lessons, summer camp, and more!
What if I missed the registration deadline?
Check the seasonal flyer or the online registration page for the registration deadline. Participants may register after the deadline; however, a $10 late fee will be applied and there is no guarantee of team placement. If space is available, participants will be added to a team; if all teams are full, participants will be put on a waitlist.
How are teams formed?
The South Sound YMCA works collaboratively with various parks & recreation departments and school districts across Thurston County to procure practice and game facilities each season. Volunteer coaches choose their practice days and locations based on what is available. We try to match players to the coach that best meets their locations, and buddy/teammate requests. Given that we base schedules off volunteer requests, not all players’ needs can be accommodated.
What requests are honored?
We will do our best to accommodate special requests. Rosters are capped with a maximum number of players, so coach/buddy requests are not guaranteed.
My teenager wants to work for the Y?
We would love for your teen to get involved! Teens ages 16 and older can apply to be a Youth Sports Volunteer and get experience being a referee, coach, or helping with behind the scenes.
Why do we share gyms with other teams for practice?
We share gym space with other teams to help reduce overall costs. This also provides an opportunity for athletes to occasionally practice alongside other teams, fostering a sense of community and encouraging new friendships.
How do I provide feedback about my experience?
We'd love to hear from you! Please feel free to share your feedback by emailing us at youthsports@ssymca.net or calling us at 360.753.6576
How do I find out about summer clinics?
Stay connected & subscribe to our Youth Programs Newsletter to get updates on registration details, current offerings, and more!
What does the registration fee pay for?
The registration fee will pay for the two practices per week, games on Saturday and the uniform t-shirt.
YMCA Staff at Games
We will have trained staff on hand at all games to manage and officiate. Please understand we recruit Y staff and in some leagues, professional referees. In many cases, this is their first job. We ask that you keep the YMCA core values in mind, and treat all staff, volunteers, participants, and spectators with respect at all times.
